Chairman David G Poppitt MSc MinstF

I was educated at Bolton School and Manchester University, and eventually gained an MSc in the Medical Faculty. I worked for over 20 years in medical research, specialising in experimental chemotherapy at Manchester´s Christie Hospital. I am the author of a number of scientific papers in this field. During this time I developed communication skills and my interest in cancer education. I chaired the Christie Committee for Cancer Education whereby medical staff went out into the community to encourage early presentation and talk about the work of the hospital. In 1989 I was invited to create a fundraising role and stopped my work in the laboratory to do just this. I built a team of 15 from a “one man show” which by 1995 was responsible for raising £3 million per annum.

In 1995 I was asked by my old school in Bolton to take on the position of Development Director. Again I built a team and during the next five years, by concentrating on alumni development and local business relationships, I was responsible for raising nearly £2 million for the Bursary Fund. I instigated a number of income generation initiatives which brought forward enquiries from across the education sector.

In 2000 I left the school to set up my own extremely successful consultancy based on my success at the Christie and in Bolton. I am the author of the bestselling “The School Fundraiser” together with a number of articles in the education and charity literature. I was the subject of a major article in the Daily Telegraph and have talked at more than 20 Charity and School Conferences.

I have been very much involved in making 3 programmes for Teacher TV and have worked with over 50 schools across the UK in both the independent and state sectors. I was Chairman of The Institute of Fundraising (NW) in the mid–nineties and founded the Institute of Development Professionals in Education (IDPE) in 1999 and am in great demand for his expertise in the area of income generation for schools, charities and sports clubs particularly through business partnerships. I have also gained much experience in communications with local groups and media relations. In June 2015, I was offered and accepted a Fellowship with the Institute of Development Professionals in Education.

I was a former rugby player for many years, and am now Chairman of Broughton Park FC in South Manchester where I set up a charity and was extremely successful both in fundraising and commercial utilisation of the facilities. Once again, I concentrated on local business partnerships setting up a number of sponsorship relationships.

I am the Managing Director of Income Generation Ltd and, along with my associates, work with clients in the charity, sports and education sectors to help raise funds in support of their work both throughout the UK and abroad.

In April 2014, I was asked to become a Trustee of Bespoke Supportive Tenancies Ltd. I was elected as Chairman of the Trustees and bear overall responsibility for the charitable aspects of the work.
